McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program (MDTP) is a systematic, exercise-based therapy program for the treatment of dysphagia in adults using the patients strengths to overcome dysphagia.
Anyone who has the ability to cough, trigger a swallow, and able to follow directions. This program works on the strength of each individual. No two treatments are alike.
Dr. Carnaby developed this program with her team and this program is based on organizing these techniques into a hierarchy of events that progressively advance the patient toward more ‘normal’ eating behavior. MDTP begins with the patient evaluation and ends with a focus on eliminating maladaptive eating/swallowing behaviors.
The research bases this program on 15 sessions, but if the patient is continuing to progress, we can continue past that number of sessions. Typically sessions are 30 minutes four to five times per week.
We have two MDTP Certified Therapists, Stephanie Gilfarb MS, CCC-SLP and Olivia Renta MS, CCC-SLP. To get an appointment, you would need a prescription from your doctor. In addition, it is best if you have a Modified Barium Swallow report prior to your visit with us. Then, we will get authorization from your insurance company and begin the evaluation and then treatment process.
