OUR CENTER FOCUSES ON COGNITIVE REHAB POST HEAD INJURY

THERAPY IS CRITICAL TO RECOVERY

When there is any type of neurological injury, therapy is very beneficial  to increase the patient's ability to target the skills that are affected.  
Areas of therapy can include but are not limited to speech, language, attention, memory, reasoning, and social skills.

SYMPTOMS OF CONCUSSION

  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Balance problems or dizziness
  • Blurry vision
  • Light or noise sensitivity 
  • Distractibility
  • Cognitive fog

CARE FOLLOWING HEAD INJURY

Following head injury, proper care is needed.
Our practice assists in recovery from head injury by offering rehabilitation of speech, language, attention, memory, reasoning, and social skills.

MEMORY DIFFICULTIES

We assist individuals with memory impairment and cognitive communication impairment through facilitatory techniques to achieve functional communication.
The different types of memorywe can rehabilitate: Immediate memoryShort term memory Delayed memory recall Long term memory

ATTENTION DEFICITS

Following head injury, attention can be impaired. We provide attentional flexibility rehabilitation by addressing

  • Sustained Attention (concentrating on one thing at a time for any given period of time)
  • Selective Attention (focusing on a single item in a group of two or three)
  • Alternating Attention (ability to stop one task in order to participate in another and repeat back and forth) 

Pragmatics Groups

Bi-County Therapy has initiated the Color My Conversation protocol.  Every level of conversation has a particular color. We have begun October with a subset of clients that are progressing through the program.  The whole clinic forms a pragmatics community to help the children of all ages, learn to navigate different social situations. This facilitates the ability to enable the children to have functional social language skills and achieve candidacy for our Pragmatics Groups.

Our activities will promote:

  • Taking turns during play
  • Initiate, maintain and end conversations
  • Maintain topic in conversation
  • Telephone skills
  • Eye-contact
  • Processing skills
  • Telling narratives

Come join our pragmatic groups where your children will participate in activities that will increase their social skills with their peers. Groups will be for four-week sessions, each session will be one hour. There will be four children in a group. Children will be placed by skill level. $50/hour, four sessions advanced payment required to register. Regular attendance is required to maximize the benefit of the program. Augmentative Alternative Communication

  We are proud to announce that we can begin to evaluate candidacy for AAC, gather data for insurance companies, and get the information for school concurrence forms so that your children/family members can have the most up to date, and state of the art equipment.
